Located on a working farm and game reserve in the Riebeek Valley, Bartholomeus Klip is a charming country lodge for only 16 guests, surrounded by a 4 000 hectare fynbos nature reserve. Indulge in lavish brunches, high teas, and a gourmet three-course dinner, with a spectacular backdrop of mountains, that canbe explored on game drives or by mountain bike, and beautiful gardens with a refreshing swimming pool. The separate Wild Olive House, with its own swimming pool, can be hired on a self-catering or full-board basis.
The nature reserve homes one of the largest remaining tracts of the rare Swartland Alluvial Fynbos and Renosterveld plant communities, and includes the largest remaining habitat of the geometric tortoise – the world’s second most endangered tortoise. Declared a provincial nature reserve for its conservation value, it is managed in conjunction with CapeNature.
Bartholomeus Klip sets out to create a sustainable enterprise, studded by an eco star for the eco choices put in place. A strong emphasis on staff empowerment comes with local food selection; the Lodge produces its own liquid fertiliser in the numerous worm farms. Recycling takes place, and the money raised from the collections is donated to the local school for the funding of projects. reneweable energy is favoured, with the guesthouse and staff houses being equipped with a system of solar geysers.
