The MSC(Marine Stewardship Council) is an international non- governmental organisation promoting sustainability in fisheries through their certification and eco-labelling program.
When choosing seafood with the blue eco-label, consumers support fisheries that have been assessed to be sustainable through a rigorous assessment done by internationally recognised experts. Certified products are also fully traceable back to a sustainable fishery, ensuring that no illegal or unsustainable products enter the supply chain.
The three principles against which fisheries are assessed are:
1. The health of the fish stocks;
2. The environmental impacts of the fishery;
3. The effective management of the fishery.
