An important landmark of the Garden Route is the famous Wild Oats Community Farmers’ Market located on the outskirts of Sedgefield at Swartvlei on the N2. Award winning and Slow-Food-Movement registered, this popular Saturday morning event brings together locals, tourists & food producers in a delightful outdoor country setting within the idyllic Lakes District area.
Music, crowds, alfresco log tables and great smells add to the fun of this lively, world-renowned market. What this initiative has achieved is the blending of people from diverse backgrounds, uniting urban & rural in a mix where important experiences of learning about food sources, nutrition & agricultural issues all blend into an unusual festive spirit of community.
Started in 1999, Wild Oats stands in contrast to the dominant “corporate shopping experience” & true to its famous motto, “from soil to soul”, shopping becomes an integrated social experience. You’ll find over 65 top farmers and local food producers every Saturday morning, come rain or shine!
Wild Oats supports only local & artisan food-producers & growers. Our principles inlcude the use of farm butter, stone ground flours, pasture raised meats, indigenous plants, fair trade coffee and vegetarian, vegan and bating options.
